TrailBlazers – A Conversation with Melody Chau

Trailblazers

At Hyphen, we push our people to think big and not to be afraid of imagining what is next. That is why we believe that innovation and creativity can come from everywhere. Our new series focuses on innovators that you least expect, sharing their stories and what makes them tick. Meet Melody Chau from SingSaver.

Tell us more about your role here at Hyphen

I’m the Acquisition and Media manager at SingSaver. As my title goes, my role is to ensure that we attract new users to our website via the effective use of media channels! That means reaching our target audiences with the right messaging at the right time.

What inspired/motivated you to be a Media Manager?

I’ve always wanted to be in the advertising industry. However, design and visual creativity aren’t really my forte so I decided to take the other route which is to help companies reach consumers via the channels they are using or visiting.

What do you think is key to your role?

Spot the trend! The digital marketing landscape is constantly changing and is changing fast, which makes it crucial to know what the changes are, and how it potentially impacts the way we advertise. On a side note, also know what’s trending in fashion. I’m not saying you have to be a fashionista, but I believe that being presentable professionally is important too!

What is a big misconception about what you do?

We don’t create the visuals or the ads! We have an amazing creative team that designs these and captivates the imagination of our audiences.

‘Blaze the Trail’ is one of Hyphen’s core values. What does it mean to you and the work that you do?

To be able to lead, adapt, and work efficiently in different situations. Nothing really can stop us from producing great work, so why not try to push the limits further than we thought possible.

Where do you find inspiration to be creative or innovative in your work?

As cliche as it may sound, but very often through conversations with people, and of course social media. I’ve been hooked on TikTok recently.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far in your career?

Work will always be work. It’s really the people that make the difference. This is in relation to building a great team, having good relationships across teams, and taking nothing personal at work when you face any conflicts.

What advice would you give to your teammates who are seeking creativity or innovation?

This may seem simple, but don’t work alone. Go out, have fun and meet new people. Go outside of your team and meet other folks inside the company. Even if you don’t work directly with them, you never know how one conversation with them can spark a new idea.

If you could know the absolute and total truth to one question, what question would you ask?

When can we start travelling again?

Conversations with Trailblazers is a new series introducing the innovators at Hyphen and learning what makes them tick.
